  1. Sounds like an interesting country. It will be interesting to watch how the current political tensions will unfold. I know I would love to go visit the temples one day so I am hoping that through the course of the year, Burma will see some positive shifts in its political structure.

  2. This is a great country to discuss because it is run unlike any country that we are accustomed to, living in North America. Being a military run Junta as the article explains, suppression of outside forces is quite common, giving absolute power to the military leaders. I completely disagree with this type of government as it takes all power and care from the people away, which leads to many human rights abuses that simply should not be happening.

  3. Kirstin, I love how I could slide my mouse over the picture and it automatically told me who it was (Burmese Leader Than Shwe). That is a very cool feature! It seems to me you know quite alot about what is happening in Burma politcs wise, I can't wait to re-visit your blog and see more about what is currently happening.

  4. Kirstin, Very good work thus far:

Your blog really communicates a kind of immediacy, which reflects the situation in Burma. Keep that up; it makes the blog interesting to read. Events will continue to unfold so it's important that you stay abreast of events from now on, you must post at least twice a week, until March break and slightly beyond.

    Some other thoughts:

You now also have to include some thoughts on the history of the Burmese military dictatorship - links are useful obviously (BBC profile and the like), but you need to explain the way events have developed in the modern period, and the ways in which they have led to the incarceration of Aung San Suu Kyi.

You should also think carefully about your use of labels: My advise would be to make them topic specific, "history," "new developments," "elections," etc., etc.

That's your task address the historical issues, stay current with events, and tidy up your labels.

    Great Start!

  5. Your link to the BBC profile page is good. It affords the reader some historical insight. However, I'd like to see you summarize some of its key points in your own words. What do you think were key or decisive events? How have they shaped the current crisis? And of course what has happened since, Nov. 25?

I wonder too if you could post some links on the blog itself to the Burmese press - are there any English-speaking sources that could offer followers of your blog some real-time information? Food for thought...
